OPEN BETA / TRANSPARENCY

Privacy matters. Especially while learning.

This page explains the observable behavior of BrowserFloat v0.8.5 based on its supplied extension code, not a completed legal privacy policy.

What the extension does

BrowserFloat detects selected text on permitted web pages and shows a small prompt icon. Clicking that icon initiates an AI request using your configured DeepSeek API key. It offers Translate, Explain, and Answer. The extension's API key is stored in the browser session storage and is managed separately from the Mac application.

What is shared

According to the reviewed source code, the request sends the selected text (up to 3,000 characters), selected mode and necessary request metadata to DeepSeek. It does not intentionally send an entire website or its address as part of the AI request. DeepSeek's own privacy and retention policies apply to data you send to that service.

Permissions and limitations

The extension requests broad host permissions to work across websites. Some pages are not compatible. This is a test build, not a production-certified release; independent security, privacy and browser compatibility testing have not been completed. Never use it for secrets or sensitive data.

Website data

This static website does not include analytics, accounts, tracking pixels, or an email form. The language switch stores only your language preference locally in your browser. The downloadable extension ZIP is served as a static file by the hosting provider. Hosting providers may keep standard access logs under their own policies.
