BROWSERFLOAT / 0.8.5 BETA

Start with one small light.

BrowserFloat is an early Chrome extension test build. It is not listed in the Chrome Web Store, and requires manual installation and your own DeepSeek API key.

Install on Chrome

  1. Download the BrowserFloat 0.8.5 beta ZIP and extract it to a permanent folder.
  2. In Chrome, open chrome://extensions.
  3. Enable Developer mode using the switch at top right.
  4. Click Load unpacked. Select the extracted BrowserFloat folder (the folder containing manifest.json).
  5. Open the extension's Options page and enter your own DeepSeek API key. The extension stores it in browser session storage, so it may need to be re-entered after a browser restart.
  6. On a normal website, highlight a word or sentence, click the small floating bulb, and choose Translate, Explain or Answer.

The extension requests broad access to web pages so it can detect your selection. In the source reviewed for this beta, only the selected text is sent with requests after clicking the bulb. This is a test build; review permissions before enabling it.

Limits to know

Chrome 102+ targeted. Some internal pages, built-in PDF viewers, restricted websites and frames may not work. This release is still undergoing real-world testing. BrowserFloat is separate from the macOS app; the macOS app is not available for public download.

Privacy and API usage

Using the extension with your own API key sends selected text to the configured DeepSeek service when you explicitly request a response. Avoid selecting confidential information. API usage charges may apply under your DeepSeek account. Read our privacy and beta notes.
